Downtempo guitar goodness from: very real earthquake machine – Za’atar X

Let’s start the week with some fabulous guitar focused instrumental hip hop from very real earthquake machine, back after a rather long gap here.

very real earthquake machine is an artist from Turkey. He says he’s “Making experimental hip hop, ambient and drone music. Highly influenced by shoegaze, noise and underground hip hop music.” That’s a fine selection of influences. But for me the featured track, Za’atar X, has a real sense of the Hendrix version of Dylan’s All Along The Watchtower in that ‘strangled’ guitar sound.

Za’atar X is part of a 12 track album called Za’atar released a couple of weeks ago. It’s a mix of acoustic guitar and some lovely hip hop beats.

The beats have a fabulous old school sense. The guitar has a slightly Spanish flavour and bits of electronic trickery give it a taut sense that really adds to the atmosphere here.

Beats tumble over themselves chasing the guitar. But it’s ever elusive, skipping out of reach. That gives the track a welcome momentum.

And yet there’s also something delightfully hazy about the sound that adds to the psychedelic experience.

Super delicious downtempo guitar trip.
