Ambient Sunday carries waves of euphoric emotion with: Doug Buckley – 013124

Ambient Sunday is diving deep into another green world with Doug Buckley.

Doug Buckley is probably American but doesn’t offer much background other than he’s an “Independent multi-instrumentalist and innovative producer.” And that he’s “Taking pages from the book of ambient music sired by Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois, and Robert Fripp.” This hints at his past in Boston indie band Long Shadow Sheep.

All of this means that he comes at ambient from an indie direction, or more properly a sort of post rock sentiment. But featured track 013124 is more than a noodle fest. It’s a three minute beatless ambient symphony.

013124 opens on hazy celestial waves. The heart of the track is a pulsating sub bass that offers depth and warms you deep inside. Around is space static and half heard organ chords.

It’s all been put through an analog blender via a four track cassette recorder. That gives it a timeless quality and the lack of digital cleanliness makes it all the more human feeling.

This is ambient into which you have to ignore everything else. Allow yourself to sink in and soak in its healing waves.
