Sophisticated jazztronica from: Yarni – Little Island (feat Emily Marks)

Here’s Little Island from Yarni. I assumed the little island was the UK. But not so. This track has its origins in Little Island, New York. It’s a lovely chiming piece of jazztronica.

Yarni (Benjamin Harris) is a multi-instrumentalist, DJ & live performer from Sheffield, UK. That’s all fine but, sadly, he’s a Sheffield United fan. For non-UK folk they’re bottom of the Premier League, having only won 3 games from the 28 played.

Lucky that Little Island is such a lovely positive track then. It crackles with life and energy. As for the title Yarni explains that “This track started life as a field recording which I captured in Little Island, New York. I chopped up the recording to form the core melody and constructed a driving electronica arrangement around it.”

The track starts with found sound and tinkles of magical bells and a bit of sax. There’s a sense of lots of things all coming together into one big crescendo. That allows Emily Marks to deliver the strings that provide the calming heart and emotional core of the track.

Beats patter around and keyboards come and go. The euphoria cannot be contained. Beats come harder now. This is a record of unbridled joy. Immerse yourself.
