Chilled downtempo from: Danube – Lisboa

A rare Spring like day today. Warmth seeping into my old bones. Musical accompaniment inspired by Iberia from Danube. All glittering guitar and warming ups and downs on Lisboa.

Danube is from Belgium. But the Danube – Europe’s second longest river – doesn’t flow through Belgium. Danube explains that “Just as rivers shape the landscapes they traverse, Danube’s compositions mirror the organic flow of life, constantly evolving, meandering, and surging forward. His music blends various influences coming from the basement of a Berlin club till the highest Mountain of the Reykjavik landscapes.”

He’s got an EP out called Cities whose tracks are named after a range of European capitals. I’m featuring Lisboa (Lisbon) which has a delicious warmth and lushness.

The track is built around a forward but delicately played tight guitar sample about which Danube says “Its evocative sound reminiscent of the soulful melodies of Manouche jazz.” The high end sound gives it a glittering appeal.

But the guitar is merely a jumping off point. There’s a bouncy beat behind it and it’s encased in twangy bass. The whole thing has a euphoric, crowded, vibrant atmosphere. It’s full of life and sound.

Synths parp away and voices keen in an uptempo type of Fado. A real melting pot of Southern European sound.
