Ambient Sunday duo with: TaigaSoundProd, and Kris Vango

Todays Ambient Sunday offers the twin charms of TaigaSoundProd, and Kris Vango.

TaigaSoundProd is a collective from Georgia. Their biog explains that it “is a team of passionate musicians and sound designers. The team’s name is inspired by “Taiga” – a boundless dense forest as a force of energy, inspiration, and life.”

Despite that the featured track looks elsewhere for inspiration. It’s looking up at the stars for a track called Stardust. And it looks to Denmark for musical inspiration. They says “This is our new track which was inspired by the legendary Trentemøller and his track – “Miss You””

Whatever the origin, Stardust is a quite beautiful track. A slow rich sound with a deep dark bass at its heart. A properly cosmic sound. It also allows the synth to slowly twinkle and tinkle away.

The track has a sense of space in the way that sound expands ever outwards. It’s Ambient, IDM and Electronica all at the same time. There’s that sense of galaxies spinning ever so slowly with this as musical accompaniment.

Astonishing how much it fits into two and a half minutes. Classic sounds.

Keeping with the cosmic theme, here’s Kris Vango. He’s currently based in Berlin & Athens but was born in Sydney, Australia, and has an extensive background in various multi-disciplinary artistries.

Kris has a vision is to map and document our solar system through narrative sound, creating sonic and visual works central to each planetary body. So far there have been Ard’ (Earth) and ‘Mother Moon’ (Moon), ‘Venus Ritus/Venus Incantatio’ (Venus) and is currently working on the next planetary soundtracks; ‘Ares’ (Mars) and ‘Messenger’ (Mercury). We’re sticking with Saturn, the second largest planet in the solar system.

The featured track is The Law of Contraction (369Hz) from the new album Saturn Suite (Kronos Aquarius i, ii & iii). I’m not really sure what the reference is in the track title but 369Hz has to do with speculation regarding Nikola Tesla. He said, “If only you knew the importance of 3, 6, and 9 only then could you truly unlock a secret to the universe”. He believed the answer to unlocking the universe was through energy, frequency, and vibrations.

The Law of Contraction (369Hz) is full of complexity and vibrations. Kris says it uses “binaural frequencies and tones that reflect mirror specific sacred geometries.” But it’s also a damn fine ambient track.

There’s a certain heavyweight vastness to the sound that veers between Ambient and edgy IDM. There are reassuring sounds that envelop but also squirts of noise that unsettle. This track keeps you on your toes.

Tones are held as heavily as Saturn. A basso profundo weightiness. But also a more feminine ethereal of space. A sound that wants to break free of planetary gravity.

In other hands this could all end up quite portentous. Kris avoids that through the regular shifts in sound. And an eye always on the club rather than the orchestra makes this proudly electronic and shamanic. it’s not always an easy sound but it worth the investment of time.
