Silence is a source of great strength
I don’t know why some people find silence so unnerving, especially in a conversation. Even a few seconds of silence can make people feel they have to fill the gap. Perhaps that’s why people feel the need to be constantly talking on their mobile phones, even when walking down the street.
Silence or small stillness is a feature of this new Talk To Me EP on 12-3 Recordings. Arnheim is a newcomer to 12-3 and brings a more deep house style to the usually more house sound of the label. Everything is terribly unhurried. Sounds have rounded edges, there are no sharp angles to jar the mood of contemplation. Talk To Me is made for late night radio, with its bass drum and rich vocal. Silent Promise is almost veering into jazzy house but remains just the right side of cocktail lounge. Bring It Down is more dance floor ready, with its stronger drum patterns and edge of minimalism. Pareisia (meaning to speak openly or boldly, I think) goes for a more Latin feel to the rhythms but subsides into genericness. Overall, a lush deep house EP but the potential for cocktail hell.
