Monday chill with Soul Catalyst and Amaparo #chill #electronic #downtempo

A couple of chilled offerings for a chill Monday morning from Soul Catalyst and Amparo.

Soul Catalyst returns, after missing the best part of the year, with Oracle. This track is listed as instrumental techno but that doesn’t really do it justice. There’s a delightful use of electric giutar here that gives it a wonderfully downtempo post rock electronic feel. I’ve written before about my suspiciousness of anything listed as ‘soundtrack’ but that justies the term. There’s a widescreen wonderous nature at work here. Like the substance of smoke this track coils its electronics around you.

Another returnee is Amparo. We had his track, Ruby, a few weeks back (‘a soft post rock drone fuzz’). Here’s the EP it was taken from. A three track affair and the other two are Lidkoeb and Balderdash. Both of these also have a cinematic feel to them, with lovely use of guitar.

Balderdash is a deeply romantic tune. It offers softly chiming guitar but overlaid with the lush swell of strings.

Lidkoeb just has the edge with a rather melancholy streak to the chiming guitars and piano.
