Ambient Sunday with: Egopusher, and Jori Larres #Ambient #Chill #Drone @egopusher

A Sunday before war? It’s all a bit too apocalyptic out there. Time to withdraw into the introspection of Egopusher, and the classic structures of Jori Larres.

Egopusher are drummer/producer Alessandro Giannelli and violinist Tobias Preisig from Zurich, Switzerland. Here’s an ambient remix of an older track.

Patrol is taken from 2017’s Crimson Red album. It’s been given a rework that moves it away from its almost classical trance source into something softer and more introspective. The remix is part of the Ambient Mix Tape of ambient tracks from Egopusher developed during the 2020 period of the pandemic.

The Patrol Rework offers a more rounded neo-classical feel on the original. But it doesn’t forego its electronic roots with the piano having that synthetic edge as strings swell and saw. It’s all terribly evocative with an angsty chilly edge. This is austere but beautifully emotional ambient.

A future classic.

Jori Larres is a Helsinki-based electronic music artist. He returns after a year’s gap with Counterpoints from his new album Intervals. He says that the “Inspiration for the album came from the concept of speculative futures and how we interact the future state with our thinking and ideation.”

Counterpoints is a track at the centre of the album. It’s a shimmering, shivering track of edged strings and a bunch of contrasting emotions. The strings get joined by a sub-bass that hums and adds a solidity otherwise lacking. Beats arrive late in a synthetic, study beats sort of fashion. There’s more structure here than the element of randomness of last year’s polyrhythms. This has an almost classically orchestrated feel. Everything has a place in the delicate world of sound that’s created.

Let the track be your guide to a more emotionally satisfying world.
